Cuero residents can support an active lifestyle with a multi-use public park which includes a pavilion with basketball courts, regulation size swimming pool, sand volleyball court, soccer, tennis, baseball/softball complex, golf and rodeo facilities. Also located in Cuero's 180-acre park are barbecue grills and covered areas with picnic tables and a fenced-in playscape area adjacent to the golf course. There is also a gazebo surrounded by a native plant area and community garden plots across the street. In addition, located in the park is the 6.8 acre Cuero lake and pier. It offers great fishing! Citizens also enjoy feeding ducks and geese in this area. In the heart of the park is the Cuero Golf Course with pro shop and cart sheds, City Clubhouse, and a 4-field baseball/softball complex. There is a paved running/walking path extending throughout the park.
Cuero's heritage also plays a major role in the community. There are currently three museums located in Cuero. The Cuero Heritage Museum is in the Federal Building at 124 E. Church St., where the Chamber of Commerce is also housed. The DeWitt County Historical Museum is located at 312 E. Broadway and the Reuss Pharmacy Museum is located at 515 N. Esplanade. The Cuero Heritage Museum was built in 1915 as a Federal Office building and Post Office. The DeWitt County Museum is a historical Victorian home formerly known as the Bates-Sheppard house. Behind the home sits a two-room log cabin, once known as the Dentler log cabin. These buildings are part of the great history of the early settlement days. This museum conducts guided tours where patrons will learn about the local history. Call (361) 275-6322 for tour reservations. Reuss Pharmacy was located on Main Street for 99 years and was established by Dr. Joseph M. Reuss in 1872 when he learned the railroad would be built through Cuero.
The Cuero Public Library has a 21,000-volume book collection, a 900-volume video collection, 600-volume audio collection, genealogy information, Cuero Record and census microfilms, an interlibrary loan program, free Internet access on Public Access computers with Microsoft Office Applications, laptop computer checkouts for DeWitt County residents, an adult literacy program, a summer reading program, storytime for bookworms and toddlers and rooms available for meeting during business hours for non-profit groups.
