CUERO COMMUNITY LEADERS' MEETINGS
The Cuero Development Corporation brings together community leaders once a month.
A speaker is invited to talk about relevant issues and in the past speakers have
included Guadalupe Blanco River Authority, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Texas
Department of Agriculture, and Lamar Advertising.
In April, Larry Blackwell, Manager of Victoria Regional Airport, was the guest
speaker. Mr. Blackwell talked about several projects ongoing with the airport.
One of the largest is the refurbishing of the air traffic control tower. This
project is funded 95% by the FAA with a 5% local match. By having a functional
air traffic control tower the airport will be "on the map" so to speak. A lot of
aircraft are not willing to land at an airport that does not have a tower. This
is due in part to the safety factor.
Mr. Blackwell encourages everyone to utilize the airport. Continental flies two
daily flights from Victoria to Bush Intercontinental in Houston. In some cases
the ticket cost is the same from San Antonio or Austin. When the cost is higher
it normally can be offset when gas, vehicle wear and tear, time and parking fees
are considered. Parking at Victoria Regional Airport is free!
The next time you are taking a trip remember Victoria Regional Airport!

DID YOU KNOW...?
This summer two city drainage projects will be completed. They are both located on
the west side of town. The projects were made possible by a FEMA grant totaling
4.2 million dollars.
The city has obtained funding to replace the roof at the Senior Citizens Building.
This project was a follow-up from work that was done on the interior by the
Guadalupe Blanco River Authority (GBRA). The GBRA assisted the City in obtaining
funding from the Johnson Foundation and the Meadows Foundation.
Keep Cuero Beautiful is working to repaint the obelisks street markers. An
obelisk, by definition, is a tall, four-sided shaft of stone, usually tapered and
monolithic, that rises to a pointed pyramidal top. Please call the Cuero Chamber
of Commerce at 361-275-2112 with locations of the markers in your area.
