GVEC Economic Development Alliance Tour

GVEC Alliance Tour guests

The GVEC Economic Development Alliance was formed, consisting of communities located inside and bordering the Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative service territory.

The Cuero Development Corporation participated in a FAM Tour February 5 and 6. The tour, which is short for familiarity, is a way for cities to invite real estate investors, agents and site selectors to visit their communities. During the tour guests are introduced to the city and the opportunities that are available as well as the quality of life.

The tour began in San Antonio where fifteen real estate investors, agents, and site selectors from San Antonio, Austin and surrounding communities boarded a bus. The tour went to Schertz, Cibolo, Marion, St. Clara, New Braunfels, Seguin, Gonzales, Cuero, and Stockdale.

Each community representative gave a guided tour and pointed out available property, industrial parks, schools, hospitals, and other points of interest. Each guest received a notebook with detailed information on the area and available properties.

Lunch was served in Cuero at the DeWitt Technology Center and catered by Barbeque Station. The group toured Cuero, Pebble Ridge, the Municipal Park, downtown and more.

This regional effort came together with the hard work of representatives from each community and GVEC. By working together we accomplished something that would not have been possible on our own. The Cuero Development Corporation has had follow up calls asking for more information concerning our community.

Keep Cuero Beautiful

Keep Cuero Beautiful (KCB) is an affiliate of Keep Texas Beautiful and was organized in Cuero in the early 1980s. KCB works closely with the Cuero Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture and consists entirely of volunteers!

GVEC Alliance Tour guests

The Cuero Development Corporation has worked on several projects with KCB. The latest project is new signage for the airport entrance to the Cuero Municipal Park. The bull rock columns match the other entrances to the park and are almost ready for the signage to be installed. This signage will identify the airport, soccer fields, Friar Ag Center, rodeo arena, softball fields, and little league complex. Texas Homestead Nursery built the bull rock columns, being careful to avoid the many underground lines in that area. Lancaster Industries is carving the wooden signage that will be attached to the columns.

Over the last year KCB worked tirelessly to remove an eyesore from the railroad right-of-way. The old loading dock was unsafe and unused. Also, KCB has taken on the monumental task of helping the bats of Cuero find a permanent, safe home. Part of this has been educational awareness for all ages on the myths that surround bats. In addition, KCB also is holding a cell phone recycle program that contributes to their funding.

Educational awareness is a main goal for KCB. They encourage businesses and homeowners alike to spend time on their environment. Challenge yourself to pick up litter, pull weeds, and work just a little bit harder to help keep Cuero beautiful!

KCB welcomes any volunteers or contributions to their organization. For more information contact the Chamber of Commerce at 361-275-2112.
