Barth spent 30 years working in the public schools as a
science teacher, junior high principal, and elementary
principal. Since his retirement from Woodsboro I.S.D.
in 1993, he has been a teacher at St. Paul High School
in Shiner, worked as a sales person at Alamo Lumber in
Cuero, served as a news editor for the Yorktown News-View,
and operated a self-employed business.
The DeWitt Community Development Foundation, established in
1998, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve
the economic base and quality of life within the greater DeWitt
Community. Its Board of Directors is comprised of members from
rural DeWitt County as well as the communities of Cuero, Yoakum,
Yorktown, Nixon and Westhoff. Companies interested in starting
a business or locating in the DeWitt Industrial Park can obtain
low-interest loans through the Foundation. Also, a revolving
loan fund for business start-ups and business expansion is
available. Recently, an agreement was reached with the University
of Houston Small Business Development Center to provide business
counseling.
The DeWitt Technology Center and Small Business Incubator was
established by the Foundation to help small businesses get
started in the area. The Technology Center has office space
available and a meeting room that can be rented. The Center
also offers computer classes and business workshops. The public
is surveyed at intervals to determine the services that the
Center can offer. Good, competent instructors teach the various
computer skills and software applications.
Anyone planning to start a business or owners of existing
companies interested in renting an office or securing a loan
should call the DeWitt Community Development Foundation at
361-275-5030.
