SEEKS NEW ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

Job Summary and Scope
The position is to plan, develop, market and manage all aspects and activities centered around economic development. This includes areas such as, but not limited to:

  • Identifying needs and preparing programs to meet those needs such as, business expansion/retention, business and industry attraction/recruitment, enhancement of tourism and revitalization of the downtown area.
  • Evaluation of related programs with recommendations for change.
  • Preparation of annual budget.
  • Developing and implementing marketing plans to achieve jobs, revenue and business expansion goals to recruit and retain companies in the City.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with local civic and governmental officials and organizations, members of local industries, Texas Department of Tourism and Economic Development and other economic development organizations
  • Working closely with CDC appointed committees.
  • Representing the City and the Corporation at seminars, tradeshows and other economic development functions
  • Representing the Corporation at City Council meetings.
  • Performing complex duties with minimal supervision along with other functions as directed by the board.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Marketing or related field.

Preferred

  • Certified Economic Development Certification (CEcD) or graduate of Economic Development Institute (EDI)
  • Certified Economic Development Finance Professional (EDFP)
  • Knowledge of target industries, industry trades, expansion/relocation factors and local companies.
  • Knowledge of state and local statutes and codes affecting the activities and operation of economic development operations.

Other Requirements
Regular office hours are required and will be expected to work irregular and/or extended hours occasionally. Must reside within the city of Cuero. Efficient operation of essential equipment, tools or objects is required. Must have the ability to effectively communicate at all levels with the public, elected officials, industry representatives and city departments, employees and management.

What is Cuero Development Corporation (CDC) All About?

The Cuero Development Corporation (CDC) is organized for the purposes of benefiting and accomplishing public purposes of the City of Cuero, TX, by promoting, assisting and enhancing, industrial, commercial, manufacturing and economic development activities for the City.

Since inception, the CDC has been actively involved in many projects, several such as the following:

  • Daule Park improvements.
  • Infrastructure enhancements
  • Commercial and historic district paving projects.
  • Historic district lighting project.
  • Preserve America banners.
  • City park soccer field lighting.
  • Partners with Business and Community Lenders of Texas (BCL) in the Small business Loan Pool offering loans to local companies to expand or start-up.
  • Participation in the creation of the Cuero Community Network which made available computer equipment and classes.
  • Creation of the December Events Committee whose main focus is "Christmas in the Park".
  • Establishment of a Sister City relationship with Miguel Aleman, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
  • Creation and maintenance of an extensive Economic Development website.
  • Publication and distribution of a monthly newsletter that is mailed to 2200 entities and a monthly article for local newspaper.
  • Construction of a downtown public restroom beginning in 2006.
