Christmas In Cuero

The December Events Committee, ad hoc committee of the Cuero Development Corporation, has received its order for additional displays and has begun set up for Christmas in the Park 2004. Thirty-two new lighted pieces will be added to the Cuero Municipal Park wonderland this Christmas, not counting numerous additional snowflakes. The lighted Christmas in the Park display will open nightly from 6:00-10:00 p.m. There is no admission fee, but donations are accepted and help the event grow. Carriage rides will also be available through the park.

The December Events Committee is also hosting its 2nd annual lighted parade, Saturday, November 27 at 6:30 p.m. Entries are being accepted through the office of the Cuero Development Corporation now free of charge. All entries must be lighted. First, second and third place awards will be given.

The Xi Nu Phi Sorority is also sponsoring a Christmas Home Tour Saturday, December 4 and Sunday, December 5 from 1-6 p.m.

Historic Downtown will also be laced in lights, Main Street draped with garlands and wreaths and decorations have been added near the downtown gazebo. Don't miss the opportunity to shop our unique and friendly shops in Historic Downtown and throughout Cuero.

Small Business Loan Pool

The Cuero Small Business Loan Pool has funds available for qualifying Cuero businesses. Businesses can borrow between $2,000 and $25,000 to be used within the business. Funds for these low-interest loans are limited and applications are considered on a "first come, first serve" basis. Information packets and applications are available at the office of the Cuero Development Corporation, 207 E. Main. More information can also be found at www.cuerodevelopment.com.

UHV President Community Address

Dr. Tim Hudson, newly appointed President of University of Houston-Victoria, hosted Annual Community Address in Victoria on October 14. Hudson assumed his duties as the President of UHV September 1. Several individuals spoke about the University systems and its importance to the community, including two current UHV system students.

A "meet and greet" reception was also hosted immediately following the Annual Community Address. Hudson is scheduled to be the guest speaker at the November 5 Cuero Community Leaders meeting at Cuero State Bank.

Lighting Projects Completed

Two of the Cuero Development Corporation's Capital Projects have come to completion. The second soccer field lighting project was finished in time for the current youth soccer season. This lighting project was a collaborative effort as a result of funding by the Cuero Development Corporation and labor provided by the Lower Colorado River Authority and the City of Cuero. The CDC hopes that the improvements to these facilities will attract additional youth sport events and tournaments to Cuero.

Another lighting project completed is the Cuero Commercial Historic District lighting project. Phase 1 of the Commercial Historic District lighting project, Main Street, was completed in 2002. Phases II, III & IV, Church, Courthouse and Gonzales Streets within the district have been in progress since then. All remaining phases of the project have been completed.
