Sara Post Meyer – Mayor, City of Cuero, Texas

Sara Post Meyer was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, moving to Cuero in 1967 after marrying Robert W Post (deceased). She has two grown children and three grandchildren. In 2004, she married Alton Meyer of Victoria who has three children and six grandchildren.

Sara was employed by Cuero ISD for 27 years teaching government, economics, and history and serving as Department Chairman for 15 years. Upon retirement in 2000, she became the Executive Director of the Cuero Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture for 5 years. While serving in this capacity, she represented the community of Cuero when attending business and travel meetings on the regional and state levels; she prepared the budget for the organization; she organized meetings, fund raising activities, ribbon cuttings for the community’s new businesses; and met with local and area businesses to help enhance the business climate of the region. She also worked with the Cuero Development Corporation and the City of Cuero in the development of a Sister City with Miguel Aleman, Mexico.

Sara is a volunteer in several community organizations: Keep Cuero Beautiful where she serves as Vice President and has worked to receive several grants for the beautification of the community from H-E-B and from KTB/TxDOT; DeWitt County Wildflower Association where she helps with the maintenance of the gardens at the County Museum and also &rlquo;pick and pluck’ wildflowers during the month of April for the live specimen display; Cuero Industrial Foundation Board member; Chisholm Trail Heritage Board member helping to raise over $200,000 at bi-annual events for the restoration of the museum building; Victoria County Master Gardener Association helping to raise over $50,000 for the expansion of the educational programs of the organization; and she served on the City of Cuero’s Charter Review Committee for three terms where the City’s Charter was reviewed and changes proposed to Council and then to City voters.

Sara has served on other community and area boards such as Gulf Bend Center, Victoria Symphony, and UH-V President’s Advisory Board. She is a member of St. Michael’s Church where she serves as a lector and Eucharistic Minister for 40 years.

Mayor Meyer will be the guest speaker at the January 5th Community Leaders’ Meeting at the new Cuero Public Library at 7:30 a.m.
