Golden Crescent Regional Planning Commission Executive Director Joe Brannan spoke to members of the Cuero community at the 7:30 AM, Friday September 6th, 2019 Community Leaders’ Meeting held at the Cuero Public Library.
Mr. Brannan covered several topics of interest such as the growing need for younger people, particularly between the ages of 25 and 40, to be trained and involved in areas of government and community leadership for the future. He asserted that part of the challenge for current leaders is showing the value of such positions to young people and gaining their interest, and that the solution includes speaking to them about issues that directly affect them. Mr. Brannan also addressed the relationship between public services and the need for taxes to fund them. He noted that while many people have an expressed desire for public services, they have an equally negative opinion of raising taxes to pay for them, and that this can create obstacles for healthy and sustained growth in communities.
Attendees of the meeting enjoyed refreshments before and during the presentation, and Mr. Brannan took questions afterwards. This was the Cuero Development Corporation’s first Community Leaders’ Meeting following its summer hiatus. Details for the October 4th 2019 meeting are to be announced.
